Classic Game Room HD reviews the MAD CATZ Xbox 360 arcade joystick. This jack-of-all-trades joystick controller is meant to appeal to those who want arcade style action and performance with modern next gen functionality. This review of the Mad Catz controller shows where Mad Catz went right, and where they went dreadfully wrong. It is a USB controller which is good for keeping costs down, but not a terribly arcade style retro controller by any means. If you are downloading arcade classic video games from XBLA Xbox Live Arcade on the Xbox 360 like Ms. Pac Man, Galaga, Xevious or Streets of Rage 2 is this the joystick controller that you should buy? Classic Game Room was the FIRST classic video game review show on the Internet in 1999. Returning in 2008 with new episodes, Classic Game Room breaks out a review of ROBOTRON 2084 for the Xbox 360 Xbox Live Arcade XBLA. Designed by Eugene Jarvis and released to the arcades in the early 1980’s, Robotron 2084 is one of the best old school classic video games ever created. You are a loner armed with a laser gun facing wave after wave of Robotrons bent on wiping out mankind. What will the year 2085 be like, how about 2086? This game asks a lot of questions and leaves few answers. But it does leave a wake of human carnage in its path. This is a hard shooter, sort of like Smash TV (hmmmm…. any similarities, maybe the same awesome designer??) CGRHD will also be covering Robotron 2084 for the Playstation 1 game console in the Williams Greatest Hits collection, Robotron 2084 for Atari 7800 and also Robotron 64 for the N64. Do they have a version of this game on PS3 or Wii? On Xbox Live you can get achievements and gamerpoints.

The Sega Genesis game console (aka the Mega Drive Megadrive) is CHRHD’s favorite gaming system, and it’s no surprise that Revenge of Shinobi is one of our favorite games. This two parters looks at this amazing side scrolling action game and what sets it apart from the rest. What we need is more 2d two dimentional side scrollers on game systems like the Playstation 3 PS3 and Xbox 360 and Wii. Although some platformers and 2 D side scrollers have hit Xbox Live Arcade XBLA we want brand new ones that combine old school action with martial arts mayhem, great stories, fun gameplay and characters. Revenge of Shinobi has it all! Break out the Genesis and enjoy a couple games of Shinobi…. Disco Shinobi of course. They should remake this game for 2008, 2009, 2010, or 2011, a remade Shinobi sequel for a new gamer system would be amazing.

As far as shmups go, Einhander is a maniac shooting game set in a 2d horizontal scrolling distopian future with the feel of Blade Runner. It uses 3d elements and pushed the PSX to its limits with incredible graphics, gameplay, sound and replay value. Einhander is a side scroller like Gradius III IV or V, Thunder Force or Life Force. But this game is different because it uses gunpods and the mechanized arm that controls them. It’s amazing and regarded by some as the best shooter ever made. It also has a light saber, homing missiles and a foxy announcer who teached you things in the training seminar. This game should be remade in 2008, 2009 or 2010 as a Playstation 3 PS3 game or something for Xbox Live Arcade.

XBLA has brought out numerous old school retrol arcade classics like Frogger, Pac Man, Xevious and Galaga. These games play in HD through an HDMI cable if you have one, they cost a few bucks each and are usually playable on Xbox Live where you can earn achievements and gamer points (gamerpoints). Galaga is a throwback to the days when Space Invaders influenced dozens of arcade machines, the alien invaders shoot at you and move back and forth, they fly down and attack you. Galaga is just awesome. you need to play this game if you like the 1980’s and arcade machine classic games and gaming.

Developed by Williams and originally released in the arcade in 1982, Joust was a smash coin-op, old school video game hit. To this day Joust remains one of the best 2D arcade titles to date and is amazingly fun to plady. Joust has been released on just about every video game console system in history including the Atari 2600, 7800, NES, Playstation and Xbox Live Arcade. There was even a Joust pinball machine!

Classic Game Room HD reviews MS. PAC MAN for XBLA Xbox Live Arcade for the Xbox 360 video game console. This classic game is one of the best games ever made and a true arcade hit. Ms Pacman has been released on practically every video game system ever developed from the Atari 2600 all the way through the NES, Sega Genesis and PS2. How does this XBLA HD version of the game compare to the ARCADE original!?? Big questions come in small, yellow packages… with bows. Gobble up points and eat those power pellets to devour the evil ghosts. Ms. Pac Man’s gameplay was stunning back in the day and remains solid, addictive and entertaining decades later. Download it from Xbox Live Arcade for a few Microsoft credits, earn achievement points and enjoy yourself. This isn’t the crashing economy or Sarah Palin spewing poorly half-memorized gibberish, this is MS. PAC MAN! Not Miss, not Mrs., not even MR…. MS. Pac Man, es. ROCK!

Returning in 2008 with new episodes, Classic Game Room breaks out a review of GUITAR HERO III for the Xbox 360 video game console. This game is also available for the Playstation 3 PS3 and Wii. It should be available for the Sega Genesis and Atari 7800. CGRHD admits that we suck at Guitar Hero. 10 year olds would crush us in a duel without breaking a sweat. But CGRHD would crush a 10 year old into tears at Ms. Pac Man, so take that!!! This game is loads of fun and makes a great party game or high scoring arcade type of game. You play as a guitar HERO (hence the title) and rock out to music from popular bands like White Zombie, The Killers, Slipknot, Poison, Rage Against the Machine, The Scorpions and Weezer just to name a few. You play the game with a fun guitar controller, we used a wireless one for the Xbox. This game is playable on Xbox Live XBLA with a friend and also has gamer points and achievements. You can play as Slash and other fun characters. Basically Guitar Hero rocks…. which we’ll admit we weren’t expecting. This game was a surprise and has been tons o’ jolly fun. Maybe we’ll have to break Rock Band out at some point, I’m sure we’ll suck at that too.

However I have a hard time believing it’ll be any better than this. Rumor has it that Mike Patton of Faith No More fame and Mr. Bungle is doing voices??? Is that true? Squeeze me macaroni, that’d be awesome. Capcom is also working on releasing Street Fighter 4 sometime soon and Mega Man 9…. Holy crap!! What do they put in the water over there at Capcom, awesome-juice? Give me some! Street Fighter IV will be amazing if this restyled, retooled August 13, 2008 release of Bionic Commando is any indication. For 800 Microsoft points you get Bionic Commando: Re-armed, the chance to get achievement points and play co-op with a friend. They even added multiplayer, holy bionic moly!!
